Every year, bush fire has destroyed properties; farm lands especially cocoa plantations worth millions of dollars in high production areas of Nigeria. That may be responsible for the decline in cocoa production referred to by the Nigerian president as reported on August 29, 2017. Even parts of the UNESCO’s tentative list of Oke Idanre cultural landscape had been destroyed by unknown people who set fire in surrounding bushes and on the mountains which surround that property.
As the dry season in Nigeria is approaching, we want to take a proactive action to curb the incident of setting fire on bushes, which also destroy natural ecosystem in the farmlands.
We are working hard to curb the occurrence of bush burning during the dry seasons. We have lined up many programmes, which include campaigns against bush burning. Our expenses will include printing of campaign documents, radio and perhaps television campaigns, posters, leaflets, banners, holding of workshops and transport; and mobility of the volunteers. Etc.
We appeal for support from lovers of culture and nature, both nationally and internationally, to generously donate towards the programme.
